Daggerheart Primer

The Cursed Kingdom

Daggerheart Playtest

We will be playing a homebrew 5 game adventure that will be using the open beta version of daggerheart. Daggerheart is the new game system by Darrington Press that uses 2d12 system.

The game will center on a once-prosperous kingdom that now lies under a curse, with its citizens turned to stone statues. The party must uncover the source of the curse and find a way to lift it before they suffer the same fate.

Character Creation

There are no limitations on character creation. Feel free to be creative with you characters. The goal is to break the game/character creation as much as possible.

What to expect

This is a more linear adventure than I usually like to run.

Despite the linear nature, the players get to tell the story.

We will be learning this game system together. At least memorize your character and what they can do.

There will be opportunities to explore and there is a lot to discover, so being curious and engaged is important

Story

The Hook

A once-prosperous kingdom now lies under a curse. It was first discovered that village people of Tinkleberg were all turned into stone. The scout from Hammfort who discovered this found that the people in his hometown had also been turned to stone.

The new king and constable of the region called for a group of adventurers to find out what has happened. The party must uncover the source of the curse and find a way to lift it before they suffer the same fate.

Story

Backstory

Since we are doing a mini adventure and not a long campaign, focus on a backstory that not too in depth. Make sure you backstory fits the adventure. Perhaps tie it to one of the villages/towns or even the kingdom in which is facing the curse. Perhaps tie your backstory to another player character’s during our session 0. This will increase the enjoyment of the story if it is all tied together.

Lore

THe Kingdom

The kingdom has very prosperous. The people have thrived under this king and queen of the realm. The queen died not so long ago from natural causes.

The king has recently died from his grief and the older of his two sons has taken the throne to rule the kingdom.

The Villages

The town of Tinkerburg and Hammfort are two of the closest large villages near the capitol city.

We will flesh out the two villages during our session 0.

Safety

Trigger Warnings

Because of the nature of themes explored in this adventure, it will explore some things that might cause triggers for some players. Here is a list of those possible trigger warnings:

  • Animal Death
  • Blood
  • Character Death
  • Controlling Parents
  • Extreme Violence
  • Fire
  • Freezing
  • Paralyzation
  • PTSD

It is assumed that you are okay with these trigger warnings if you are continuing with the campaign. If you find that mid way through you are not comfortable use some of the safety tools mentioned below.

Safety TOols

Tools

Because the game may explore certain themes that might not be for everyone as the game progresses, there will be safety tools in place. Or perhaps an incident in the game just made your uncomfortable. Here are the tools.

X N O Card

We will be using a variation of the X card that allows someone to anonymously stop the game. If you feel uncomfortable click the X card symbol. The game will stop, without questions, and move on to the next instance.

Debriefing

At the end of each session we will have a debriefing. You can tell the group of the things that you think went well and things that could change or improved.

Open Door

You will always be able to contact me through Discord, Demiplane, or StartPlaying of any concerns you have. This can also be used to help develop the story of your character and not just issues within the game. I do run multiple games during the week, so I will try to respond as fast as I can.

Rules

general Game Rules

  • PvP is NOT allowed and ONLY acceptable if it moves the story and both players consent to it (this includes stealing from some one or something similar)
  • Be respectful to one another
  • Do not request roll a check, instead role-play out what you want and if a check is required then the GM will request one.
  • Have fun! Enjoy yourself and take in the stories we are telling together.
